What this means for your family

Fit for purpose: what it means for your child

For a child experiencing seizures and self-injurious episodes while awaiting a transplant, educators adapted the environment with cushions and protected spaces, guided by family and medical information. Quiet sensory areas, accessible equipment and flexible group spaces support every child's participation. Our educators observed peers helping interpret the child's communication, reviewed what worked and embedded safer group strategies while preserving belonging, agency and learning. For your family, this means indoor and outdoor spaces are accessible, purposeful and ready to support every child's learning and participation. Come and explore how our spaces and resources are designed for children.

What families can expect

Spaces that inspire discovery.

Four practical commitments make the Quality Area meaningful for children and families.

01

Designed for participation

Children can reach, choose and use spaces and resources in ways that support growing independence.

02

Challenge with purpose

Movement, nature and appropriately risky play help children test ideas and build capability.

03

Resources stay open-ended

Everyday and reclaimed materials invite more than one answer, one use or one kind of learner.

04

Sustainability is practised

Children take part in caring for places, materials and living things through everyday decisions.

The seven Quality Areas

What quality feels like for your family.

Each area turns the National Quality Standard into experiences families can recognise at Hawthorn Street. Together, the seven pages contain all 200 family stories.

Acknowledgement of Country

We learn together on Wiradjuri Country.

We acknowledge the Tubbagah People of the Wiradjuri Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we meet and learn. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and acknowledge their continuing spiritual connection to Country.
